Plans for more Housing in Tyseley

by Roger Harmer on 22 January, 2011

A planning application is soon to be made to redevelop another old industrial area of Tyseley and transform it into residential housing. The area is made up of a strip of land between Knights Road and Tyseley Lane. It includes the scrapyard at the top of Knights Road,  which is likely to please nearby residents, who have complained to me about the impact on the use of that site on them. Some 50 or so new homes would be built if the plans go ahead. In general I am a supporter of the conversion of this type of poor quality industrial land in Tysleley into new housing. However it will be very important to get the plans right so I’ll be looking very closely at the detailed plans when they are submitted.

At the same time the owners of the empty parcel of land at the top of Knights Road, opposite the scrapyard, have applied for an extension of the planning permission they have on that site – again to put housing on the land. No doubt if the scrapyard is turned into housing, the redevelopment of this site will become more attractive too.

General view is not unfavourable , but can they build on scrap yard, isn’t ground somewhat contaminated ?

The scrapyard does have some contamination and they are aware of it. From their comments, they don’t think it is bad enough to prevent the development.
