Yarnfield Police Tasking Monday 14th February

The latest Police Tasking meeting for the Yarnfield Estate took place on Monday. 

PCSO Ludford gave a short presentation on Current Crime levels since the beginning of the year.  For the Yarnfield Estates there have been:

60 Recorded Crimes: 

  • 15 of these are “Non-Crimes”,
  • 8 relate to Bilkings (drive-offs at Service Stations).   

There had been 37 incidents of actual recorded crime in the area (equating to 0.83 crimes a day).  This level of crime remained relatively low. Even Anti-Social Behaviour was relatively low and there were no Hotspots identified. 

Three new initiatives all running till 31st March 2011 have been set up to address these and other issues, namely: 

  • Operation Repel – This is a constituency wide Operation targeting offenders of serious acquisitive crime;
  • Operation Intrusive – Force wide operation targeting serious acquisitive crime;
  • Operation Choir – Cross Border Operation (Solihull/Birmingham East) targeting Burglary in Acocks Green/Solihull area.  There have been a number of notable arrests especially for burglary offences mainly within the Gospel areas.   

Topics Discussed At The Meeting: 

1)    Speeding on Warwick Road.   

Vehicles were noted at excessive speeds on the Warwick Road between the junctions with Fox Hollies Road and Tyseley Hill, Tyseley, Birmingham.  This was occurring regularly during night time hours between 11.00 P.M. and Midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.  

PC Dartnell stated that there was only one Traffic Camera on Warwick Road to act as a deterrent. However PC Dartnell stated that he and PCSO Ludford were now trained in the Pro Laser 3 Speed Guns, which would capture the speeds at which vehicles drove.  

Recently the local Neighbourhood Team held a mini operation on Tynedale Road, Dolphin Lane and Olton Boulevard East. This lead to 7 motorists being warned, one being issued with a FPN for failure to wear seat belt, and another was fined for doing 45 MPH in a 30MPH zone. 

If Members of the Public were aware of problem areas they were advised to contact the Neighbourhood Team and Operations could be conducted given resource/time constraints.  With regard to the Warwick Road this concern would be raised with Force Traffic who would monitor the area given the time at which the problem occurred.  

2)    Double Yellow Lines On Tyseley Lane.   

One resident stated that recently areas on the Warwick Road had Double Yellow lines painted.  Apparently the Birmingham City Council had informed residents on Tyseley Lane that parts of their road would also receive the double yellow lines.  However this has not been completed.  PCSO Ludford stated he would visit the resident on the following day to ascertain contact details of the Birmingham City Council contact and enquire on their behalf. 

3)    Permanency of Local Officers

 A number of residents expressed a desire for Officers to remain within a particular area so that trust and confidence could be built with their local Officers.  There was concern that if residents had ongoing concerns within an area it was a timely and expensive exercise to keep repeating the named issue to other Independent Officers. It would make more sense for an issue to be dealt with by an Officer the Community knew and respected.  PCSO Ludford stated that changes in April may initiate a system which would address this issue.  Residents would be informed when Officers knew postings set to change in approximately April 2011.

 4)     Bus Garage and Buses queuing on Summer Road

PCSO Ludford gave a quick update on the ongoing issues surrounding the Bus Garage on Fox Hollies Road/Summer Road.  Currently Supervision at Acocks Green Police Station and the local Councillors are planning a joint meeting with National Express to discuss the issue, and convey the many problems local residents were experiencing.  Partners will hopefully instigate changes in the work practices of the Garage to enable a less congested and safer road for all parties.  Residents will be updated when more is known.    

The next meeting will take place in the Scout Hut off Spring Road (behind Scanlon’s) at 7pm on Monday 11th April.
