Liberal Democrat Councillor working for Acocks Green Learn more

The first of 2011’s Police Tasking meetings saw good news with reported Crime in Acocks Green down 11% in December (compared to the previous December). This compares to a rise of 2% across the West Midlands as a whole. The one type of crime that has been causing concern is burglary with many burglaries taking place during daylight hours. However several arrests have been made (including one yesterday) and the monthly figures are still relatively low. A classic mistake at this time of year is to advertise the fact that you have new electronic equipment by putting the empty boxes out in full view of the street. Much better to be discreet in the way you dispose of the packaging for your new toys.
The priorities from last meeting (speeding in Hazelwood Road and anti-social behaviour in Pendleton Road) have seen no further reported incidents. No doubt the snowy weather has helped to reduce the impact of both issues. The other priority was burglary and, as noted above, there have been several arrests for this crime over the last month.
The next meeting will be at 7pm on Thursday 3rd February in the usual venue; Archbishop Ilsley School.
