Tyseley Supermarket Update

by Roger Harmer on 16 December, 2011

An update on the two major development proposals for Tyseley. One, on Spring Road / Shaftmoor Lane is based around a Morrisons supermarket. The other, on Reddings Lane / Olton Boulevard West is based around an Asda supermarket.

The Asda + development’s Planning Application has been lodged with the Council. Its Application number is 2011/08182/PA you can view it by clicking on the number. If you wish to comment on it you need to do so by 30th December 2011. I understand that it is likely that this Application will be considered together with the Morrisons Application (2011/06776/PA) given their proximity.

Meanwhile on the Morrisons + Development side of things, Aero Engine Controls now have their Board’s agreement to their proposed relocation to Birmingham Business Park. Subject to further negotiations they anticipate starting the relocation process in 2014 and ceasing operation at Shaftmoor Lane in 2015, at which point their land would become available for housing as per the third phase of the Morrisons + Development. The land for the first two phases (the Morrisons Supermarket itself and the Extra Care Village) is available now.

Meanwhile Sainsbury’s have written to the Council and stated that they retain their longterm commitment to Acocks Green Village and have no objection to the Morrisons application. I understand that Sainsbury’s now own the Red Lion pub and intend to demolish it and use the land to improve their store in the Village.
