Bring Back Our Bins!

by Roger Harmer on 28 January, 2021

Following complaints from residents across Acocks Green about litter bins being removed by the Council, without any local consultation, we have launched a petition to ask the Council to bring them back. The link to the petition is here.

The Council have attempted to justify the move by saying that the bins attract fly-tipping. Well it may be true that some fly-tippers put their rubbish by the bins, but do they seriously thing that removing them will make the fly-tippers give up and book a slot at the tip? Of course not – indeed as the photo shows some former bin locations are still attracting regular fly-tipping.

Its time the Council returned the bins they removed and then, if they feel some are in the wrong place, let the local community have a discussion about it. We are a pretty sensible lot in Acocks Green – if a bin is clearly in the wrong place, I’m sure we will agree to have it moved!

I logged a complaint in september 2023 REF WLB001247 – they removed a bin outside our property adjacent to the zebra crossing on olton boulevard east. We continue to get large amounts of dog poop bags, mcdonalds & chip wrappers, bottles & cans put into our hedge which is not pleasant, breaks our power hedge cutter when we come across some we have missed or get covered in poop when we hit a dog poo bag!!!! why have you taken away our bins without any notification or consultation? to encourage people to take their litter home? well they don’t we have plenty of it daily in our huge hedge.
