New booking system at Tyseley Tip from Thursday

by Roger Harmer on 9 June, 2020

To tackle the queues which have been causing significant problems at all the Council tips since they reopened last month, a new booking system is being introduced on Thursday.

Under the new system:
* You can book a visit via this link.
* Only cars with a booked visit will be allowed on site. No booking, no entry.
* Each vehicle will have a 15 minute slot.
* Users must use the vehicle that’s booked in.
* There will be a limit of one visit per week.

In addition the Council tips (Household Recycling Centres) will move to normal summer opening hours from Thursday. For Tyseley these are:

Weekdays: 8am to 8pm
Weekends: 8am to 6pm

Update 10th August:

It is clear that there is far greater demand for slots at Tyseley tip than the Council have made available. I am pushing the Council to make more slots available, and believe this is easily possible while maintaining social distancing. In the meantime it if you want to book a slot, your best chance is in the morning of the day, a week before you want to visit, as the slots are released daily, a week ahead.

Hi Roger, I,ve benn trying to book a slot a Tysley Tip but the web site does not display the field for my postcode. Only my e mail, car reg and name. Does this mean there are no slots or is the site down? Any help appreciated. George

    • Roger Harmer says:

Hi George, I’ve just tried and the system is accepting bookings now but only for next Tuesday. It only offers slots a week ahead so if next Tuesday’s slots have only just been added there may not have been any available when you tried. Please try again now and let me know if you still have problems. Roger

        Hello Roger,
Like George I have just been on the booking site for Tyseley tip. The site only gives me the option for Perry Barr or Castle Vale for next Sunday.
I live less than two miles from Tyseley & am reluctant to travel more than double that.
Since these restrictions have been introduced I have seen instances of fly tipping, indeed where I work on a private estate there have been numerous instances of rubbish
being disposed of in this way.
I am well aware of the restrictions being necessary, but residents still need to dispose of their waste responsibly.

I look forward to your reply

        Many thanks
        Steve

Hi Steve, what is happening is that the slots for each day are released a week ahead. Because the weekend is the most popular time for visiting the tip, those slots tend to go well before the end of each day they are made available. What I think the Council should do is make more slots available because I think that is possible while following social distancing rules, but in the meantime if you want a weekend slot you will need to try to book fairly early in the morning a week ahead of when you want to go. Best wishes, Roger

            Hello again Roger,
Still no bookings available at Tyseley. Poor show really.
Birmingham City Council need a good shake and sort themselves out! Street recycling sites are being removed as it, in their words. Invites fly tipping.
            Get off your backsides,
            Sort this out , NOW!!!

absolutely poor service this booking system is, so many issues, its unfair, unreliable, talked much about how good it was going to be but just gimmick and market strategy.i have complained to Veolia nearly 2 months ago via email and surprise surprise no reply…..
One is unable to book a slot on most occasions at Tyseley Tip, rather it offers you a slot at castle Bromwich or Perry bar, ( a 16 mile round trip, you must be kidding) a complete shambles of a poor service and rip off.
As a resident living in brum for the past 38 years the services are getting bad to worse, not value for money at all as council tax payer which goes up each year without fail, remember the refuse issues last year? And they still had the nerve to hike the prices to MAX, the services provided by this failing local authority are a absolute joke, perhaps the CEO and the senior directors should hang their heads in shame and take a significant pay cut to help with financial crises they talk about which face the local authority…..they are the ones responsible for this mess.

  3. Janice Foxall says:

Dear Roger how on earth do I book a slot at Tyseley tip.Three days now.The form as I am filling it in keeps coming up “invalid”.For goodness sake I know my own name. This is ridiculous,I have so much garden rubbish. It is piling up,and we do have a rat problem.

    • Roger Harmer says:

Hi Janice, there are major problems with a shortage of slots at Tyseley. The Council have promised to try to get more slots available soon and I very much hope they do this – I believe they should as it seems to me (having been once since they re-opened) that it is perfectly possible within social distancing rules. Currently the slots are released each day for the day a week ahead. Until sufficient slots are made available at Tyseley, your best chance is to log on early in the day a week ahead to try to get a slot before they all go. Best wishes, Roger

Have tried several times to get a slot at tyseley tip, and like previous posts keep getting Perry Barr, castle bromwich coming up. I certainly am not travelling all that way. You need to look into howyou are handling this whoeverever is in management. Frustrated recycler.

    • Roger Harmer says:

As I’ve said before there aren’t enough slots for the demand at Tyseley and I’m pushing for more. I’m an opposition Lib Dem Councillor – the Labour Party run Birmingham, not me or my party. We believe they should have reopened the tips earlier and should increase their capacity now. What I’m doing with this blog is to explain what is going on – and, until they do put more slots on (which I expect they will fairly soon) how to maximise your chances of getting one – which is to book early in the morning a week ahead of when you want to go.

  5. Wajid Shah says:

I want to take out some items from my garden myself, the things I would like to take out are: bricks,doors,soil/dirt,leaves.

    • Roger Harmer says:

Hi Wajid, you can take these things to the tip. Its free to use if they are from your garden. Contractors running landscaping businesses have to pay but its free for private individuals. You do still need to book a slot but availability has been good recently.
