Acocks Green Library set to reopen on Tuesday 4th March

by Roger Harmer on 14 February, 2014

I’m told that Acocks Green Library will reopen on Tuesday 4th March. This is based on a promised hand back to the Council on Wednesday 19th February by the contractors. There then needs to be a deep clean of the carpets and fixtures, reinstallation of the IT equipment and a margin for error to sort out any unexpected problems.

It will be great to have the Library back with us and good to know that, with the roof renewed, the building is in good condition to face whatever the weather throws at us for many years to come.

Hallo Roger, is it correct that on Mondays it opens now from 11, think it used to be from 9??
Will there be any razmatazz to celebrate its reopening or will they just open the door and act like its not been shut for months?? Be nice if there could be some special event perhaps for the children’s library at least. Thank you.

Hi Frances, yes that is correct – from now on it will be open from 11am-7pm on Mondays, not 9am-7pm. The other days (Tues, Weds, Thurs and Sat) it will be open from 9am-5pm. The BCC website still has the old opening hours for Monday (9am-7pm). The ‘extra’ two hours on Monday were funded by Community Chest in the past but this has not been continued (Community Chest has been halved by the current administration). I’m not aware of any razzmatazz for the opening. Maybe the almost endlessly moving date for the predicted opening has made the idea of booking some form of celebration too much of a risk!
